Senior C++ / JUCE Audio Software Engineer (Plugins + Hardware) - Full-Time - Location: Hybrid/Potters Bar,UK

If you’ve spent years deep in JUCE, shipped VST3 / AU / AAX plugins, and care about how professional audio tools actually feel to use — this role is for you.

We build pro audio hardware + software systems where plugins are not just DSP wrappers, but first-class control surfaces for real devices. That means:

  • Serious C++ and JUCE work (not toy projects)
  • Thoughtful parameter systems, state management, undo/redo
  • DAW-host edge cases and real-world workflow constraints
  • Custom UI, meters, visualisation, and interaction design
  • Low-latency communication with hardware over USB/network
  • Close collaboration with embedded and audio engineering teams

 

Position Overview:

We're seeking a full-time C++ Audio Software Engineer with strong expertise in audio plugin development and a  passion for creating intuitive, professional-grade user experiences. You'll work on developing cross-platform audio plugins that provide seamless control of hardware audio devices, implementing sophisticated parameter management, real-time audio processing, and network-based device communication.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Audio Plugin Development
    • Design and implement cross-platform audio plugins (VST3, AU, AAX, Standalone)
    • Create responsive, intuitive interfaces for complex audio parameter control
    • Implement undo/redo systems, preset management, and state persistence
    • Build robust parameter routing and communication systems
    • Debug and resolve issues across different DAW hosts and operating systems

  • UX/UI Design & Implementation
    • Collaborate on UX design for professional audio workflows
    • Develop custom UI components with professional aesthetics
    • Implement custom controls (knobs, sliders, buttons) with industry-standard behaviors
    • Design and develop audio visualization components (meters, transfer curves, spectrum analyzers)
    • Conduct user testing and iterate based on feedback

  • System Integration
    • Interface with hardware devices via USB and network protocols
    • Implement device discovery and connection management
    • Handle real-time bidirectional communication between software and hardware
    • Debug cross-platform communication issues
    • Collaborate with embedded team on protocol specifications
    • Optimize data transfer for low latency

Required Skills:

  • 5+ years professional C++ development experience
  • 2+ years developing audio plugins using JUCE framework
  • Strong understanding of audio plugin architectures and standards
  • Experience with modern C++ practices
  • Proficiency in cross-platform development (Windows, macOS, Linux)
  • Experience with build systems and dependency management
  • Strong debugging and profiling skills
  • Version control expertise (Git)
  • Understanding of real-time audio processing constraints and best practices
  • Experience with audio parameter management and automation
  • Knowledge of DSP fundamentals (filters, dynamics processing, metering)
  • Understanding of sample rates, buffer sizes, latency management
  • Familiarity with DAW integration and plugin hosting
  • Experience with audio file formats and processing
  • Experience with design patterns (Strategy, Observer, Factory, Dependency Injection)
  • Knowledge of SOLID principles and clean architecture
  • Ability to write testable, maintainable code
  • Experience with unit testing frameworks and methodologies
  • Understanding of state management patterns
  • Experience designing extensible APIs and plugin architectures
  • Understanding of USB communication protocols
  • Experience with network programming (UDP, TCP, WebSockets)
  • Familiarity with multi-threading and concurrency
  • Knowledge of inter-process communication
  • Experience with asynchronous programming patterns
